It's really quite horrible. When I've lost birds, it's always been that they're fine until suddenly you discover the body and you're just all surprised. It's like the real one got out and left this jailhouse bunk dummy in its place and you're all, "No one esCAPES from Stalag 13!" except, you know, apparently someone did, since all that's left is the fake.

Not like that with Polly. Not like that with the being there and the seeing it happen, and that being, you know, option one, and a slower version with a lot more pain involved being option two.

I really, really, really hate tumours.

It was another tumor on Jacob--one we couldn't operate away, and one that was spreading--that caused us to finally let him go. That was two years ago, and it's still sore for me. I've never had an animal that close.

*hugs* (lost kitty almost two years ago in April to diabetic shock, and the Cocker Spaniel that I jokingly say raised me died when she was 16 of mast cell carcinoma...yeah, tumours suck :()

I'm so sorry for your loss...it's so hard to part with a beloved kitty, but you did the best thing for her...gifting her with a pain free passing at the cost of much pain to yourself.

I'm so sorry. :( You guys gave Polly a long, happy life. Probably one of the happiest a cat can have. Not to mention, 17 years is, like, 150 in human years.
